Friday night Mark Mallman had two shows at the seventh street entry. For some reason I chose to go to the early all-ages show. Jon and I hustled down to the 6 pm show. When we got in the doors, the Ashtray Hearts ( a quality alt-country-ish outfit) were on stage. I headed straight for the bar to get a tall Newcastle but, "sorry, we're a dry bar tonight", bummer. No matter though, I wasn't that thirsty. We found a spot to sit and watch the Ashtray Hearts finish up their set. The venue seemed unusually sparse, made me wonder just how many all-agers knew who any of these bands were. After about 20 minutes of setup time, Mallman and group took the stage. It was 730 and there were about 50 people to watch one of the finer rockers in the twin cities. This was most noticeable on the main floor infront of the stage where Ive seen moshpits assemble for countless forgettable bands. After Mallman's first song we decided it would be disrespectful to sit back and leave the area in front of the stage empty so we got right in front in hopes of persuading the rest of the concert goers to join us. Unfortunately no one joined us in the front. Jon and I spent the entire show standing about 6 feet from the band and about 20 feet from everyone else and man did I get thirsty.

Other then that the show turned out great, they played tracks from his first 3 albums as well as a hilarious cover of Moby's Natural Blues. As luck would have it Mr. Mallman thanked Jon and I for holdin it down by the stage and called us on to stage, where I got a chance to address the crowd:
"and I wanna thank all of you, for if it wasnt for you guys, we wouldn't be up here "
oh and I also got a sweet Aesthetic Apparatus poster to commemorate the evening.
Pitchforkmedia.com has announced their top one hundred albums from the 1980s. Aside from some glaring omissions: no INXS!? no LL Cool J !? no Janet Jackson!?, I think the list is pretty good. It certainly takes care of the punk/indie scene.

I think it's pretty cool.
About a year ago I was told about this about "this incredible band", that sounded "like no one else", they were "from Iceland and their music is kind of atmospheric and beautiful". The band was Sigur Ros and I "just had to buy there album, immediately". So I took their advice and went out and bought ágætis byrjun. I was immediately captured by the cherubicly glacial sound. Around this same time Sigur Ros visited minneapolis for the first time, unfortunately I unable to cop tix to the womens club show.
On Tuesday Sigur Ros returned to Mpls to support there untitled "()" new album and this time I made sure to get tickets. The show was in a word incredible. The sound was Huge, the light show was sweet and the multimedia was gorgeous. The band played for 2 hours straight without taking a break, which allowed me to feel actually pretty good about the $30 ticket price.
The other night we were kind of bored, so we decided to have an impromptu dance party which was all good except they thought that I was getting a little too crazy, so they taped me to my chair. They thought some packaging tape could hold me down, little did they know, I'm a Master Chair Dancer.
This years Halloween was longer than most. Because the holiday fell on a thursday, which is the first night of the weekend for your average twenty-something, there were essentially three nights to dress up and actin' the fool.
I brought my camera to the halloween functions. I dressed as one of my favorite SNL characters: Dieter(pronounce DEE-tah).
